5th Grade Band

NOW’S THE TIME FOR 5TH GRADE BAND!

As many of you may have realized, beginning band usually starts in 5th grade. Due to Covid-19 restrictions last spring I was unable to recruit beginning band. I've spent the fall researching and finding safe ways to test students for band instruments in order to find a good fit for them in band now and in the future! If your child is interested in band, in order to cut out the use of paper, please EMAIL me to let me know you are giving me permission to test your child on band instruments. Just testing does not necessarily lock them in to being in band; they can change their minds later.

If you don't have any background knowledge about band I encourage you to watch the following video with your child that introduces all the instruments in the band:

If you would like your child to see the various opportunities available to them with the West Carroll Band and therefore test band instruments, please email me the following information (in fact you can cut and paste this into your reply if you would like!) :

Homeroom teacher:

Instruments I would like to try:

To answer some frequently asked questions.

*Band itself is low risk since students receive their OWN instrument to use for lessons and practice and are never sharing mouthpieces or supplies, even in the testing process.

*Due to the financial concerns that have come up (due to covid lay-offs and closed businesses) West Carroll received a grant to refurbish many of their school instruments to be available for those wanting to join that may have issues renting or buying an instrument from a store.

*Just as a reminder, the instrumental program builds year after year and the school schedule is set up to accommodate "beginning" lessons ONLY when kids are in 5th grade. It is very difficult to "start" band beyond 5th grade so if they are even remotely interested, now is the time to give it a try!

*Our High School Music Program has a long and proud history of All State musicians, state championships, and full or partial college music scholarships for seniors who have participated since 5th grade, but the only way to be involved in high school is to start now!

If you have any other questions regarding beginning band, please don't hesitate to reach out to me at [email protected]

I have already started the testing process but there is still time to join! I will take additional emails giving permission to try instruments through FRIDAY DECEMBER 11.

I look forward to hearing from you!
