Reading Standards
In reading, students will be able to:
- read a wide-variety of grade-level texts (fiction and nonfiction)
- use text evidence to make an inference
- quote accurately from a text
- identify and summarize the theme
- identify and summarize the main idea
- compare and contrast characters, settings, and/or events
- paraphrase information from a text
- read and interpret text features
- analyze the author's point of view
- analyze and compare the point of view of multiple text
- compare and contrast text from a singular genre
- compare and contrast information from multi-media sources (book, video, audio)
In language, students will be able to:
- use reference materials (dictionary, thesaurus, glossary)
- determine the meaning of unknown words or phrases
- decode words using prefixes and suffixes
- identify and use pronouns
- spell grade-level words correctly
- use commas correctly
- identify and use verb tenses
- interpret, recognize, and analyze figurative language
- acquire grade-level vocabulary
In writing, students will be able to:
- use conjunctions, interjections, and prepositions to create descriptive writing pieces
- understand and utilize the 5 stages of writing process (plan, draft, revise, edit, publish)
- write a narrative
- write an opinion piece with reasoning and evidence
- conduct short research projects
- use capitalization and punctuation correctly
